The Lettuce Cook classes are such a great treat for Yana! She's always super excited about her Tuesday afternoons. In fact, she was pouting yesterday when I told her there wasn't going to be a class today. She loves it so much! But she's not the only one - our whole family looks forward to it. And some days it becomes a real time saver. Last week I was going to grill something for dinner but we had that huge rain storm come through and I couldn't cook outside. Luckily, Yana had already brought home the delicious BBQ Pineapple Chicken that we all could enjoy. Thank you for all your efforts in introducing the kids to cooking and for sending us great pictures and all the regular updates.

I wish I could fully express to you how wonderful this afternoon was. Savannah was so, so proud of her meal. She couldn’t wait for everyone to try it (it was delicious, all three of her siblings and her parents loved it). She was just beaming! The best part was I think she really understood how much love and time goes in to cooking a meal.

Olivia had the time of her life and she was really sad when I told her tonight that she won't be doing Lettuce Cook next week. Chef Brittany is amazing. She is so young, but keep an eye on this lady as she is going places. She runs her own company teaching kids to cook both at school as an elective class, and can also come to your house. She’s really good with young kids and doesn’t need me to be there during lessons, although I enjoy watching the process so much that I pop in and out of the room. The cost varies on what level price of groceries you prefer (top shelf, organic or bottom dollar off brand is your choice), but for my two kids (age 5 & 7) for 2 hours and food for 3 meals worth of food its about $100. They make a LARGE serving of food, which is great for leftovers. She also involves them in cooking over a portable, mini, hot cook top, sort of like a George Foreman grill, which is great because it feels a lot safer than a crowded-kids standing on step stools type arrangement- around a built in gas range. She teaches about food safety, food chemistry (eg the acid in the lemon juice will stiffen the cream cheese’), and encourages them to cook to taste, encouraging them to make their own choices (eg more garlic? How about now? Still more garlic?) Best part is she brings her own equipment & cleans up after herself!!!! That in itself is amazing. My kids love it and request her back again and again.

My six-year old loves Lettuce Cook! He has never cooked prior to going to this class. In each class, he measures, stirs, and sautés food with his classmates. Brittany is a fun teacher and makes cooking easy. They bring home enough food to feed a family of 4! Whenever it is Lettuce Cook class day, my son says, “You don’t have to cook. I’ll make dinner tonight!” Thanks for making my son’s first experience in the kitchen a positive and memorable one!
